Research requires three conditions: Freedom, security and funding. Trier University of Applied Sciences is actively committed to academic freedom and supporting researchers at risk.
Since 2016, the Philipp Schwartz Initiative has enabled German universities and research institutions to accept foreign researchers who are at risk of war or persecution in their home countries. To date, the initiative has supported 491 researchers from 26 countries of origin with scholarships at 128 institutions.
The Philipp Schwartz Initiative gives German universities and research institutions the opportunity to host researchers at risk as part of a fellowship. The standard funding period is 24 months and can be extended by up to one year as part of co-financing.
In addition to the Philipp Schwartz Initiative, there are other funding programs and initiatives that actively support at-risk researchers and host institutions through fellowships, mentorship programs and career networks.
