On the proposal of the Presidential Board, the members of the Senate adopted the Internationalization Strategy for Trier University of Applied Sciences on May 4, 2022. The strategy is the result of research in which all university groups, including students, faculty, and administrative staff, participated in the form of online surveys, expert interviews, and group discussions. "It was important to us to involve all members of Trier University of Applied Sciences in the development of this strategy from the very beginning, as they all actively contribute to the climate of openness towards the world. Thanks to our central location in the heart of Europe, not far from Luxembourg, France and Belgium, we have always seen ourselves as an international university with regional roots and have now anchored this in our mission statement," says the President Prof. Dr. Dorit Schumann.
With nearly 17 percent international students, composed of more than 100 nations helping to shape the present and future of Trier University of Applied Sciences, and over 120 international research and teaching collaborations worldwide, internationality and diversity can already be experienced at Trier University of Applied Sciences. With its five-year internationalization strategy, Trier University of Applied Sciences aims to further increase its attractiveness for international researchers and students while offering all university members a cosmopolitan campus with opportunities for international networking. With this goal in mind, the diverse activities and collaborations will be bundled, strategically aligned, and professionally managed in selected areas within the framework of the strategy. "We understand internationalization is a constant process that is self-building and enhances quality in all areas of the university which picks up on current trends such as the digital transformation, and social challenges such as achieving the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, and makes them usable for the international orientation of Trier University of Applied Sciences," emphasizes Prof. Dr. Henrik te Heesen, Vice President for Research and responsible for the International Affairs department.
In developing the Internationalization Strategy 2022-2026, the university has been guided by the relevant regional, national and European higher education policy framework. The strategic internationalization goals are implemented in three overarching fields of action:
The strategic internationalization goals are each assigned subordinate action goals and operational measures with corresponding key performance indicators, so that the progress in internationalization can be reviewed and evaluated. The two successfully acquired internationalization projects "Hochschule Trier International: Successfully Shaping Transitions" and " Hochschule Trier International: Global Innovation for Sustainable Futures", for which Trier University of Applied Sciences will receive almost 1.5 million euros from the DAAD program HAW.International over the next four years, provide the ideal framework for the implementation of the strategy. The internationalization strategy is publicly available.
