The transition from school to university represents a new stage in the life of every first semester student. Your start into your academic life requires orientation in an unknown and complex world.

The departmental and interdisciplinary orientation services during the study entry phase aim to support first semester students to find their way around their new environment faster and more efficiently.

Introduction event

During the start of the semester, the individual departments offer introduction events. First semester students can get to know the campus with its most important services during information and orientation events or workshops. It also give them an opportunity to get in touch with their fellow students and their professors.

Library tour

The university library team offers a 15min guided introduction to the libraries at the beginning of each semester. It informs new students on the different ways of using the library: looking for textbooks and borrowing them, using the library catalogue and data base, finding articles in scientific journals and copying them as well as using interlibrary loan. More information and dates can be found on the website of the university library.

Online-Video Tutorials [Screencasts]

Using the online-platform panopto, the university provides introductory screencasts to topics such as:

Registering for a lecture or consultation with a professor through StudIP, using the library, using the online-catalogue of the library or using the interlibrary loaning system.
More video-tutorials are in the making and will be added to the platform as soon as they are available.

Study starting portal

The study starting portal comprises the most important information on your start at the university online: ranging from central dates like the welcome event for first semester students to different introductory events as well as different service and advice units of the University of Applied Sciences Trier.

Welcome brochure

The welcome brochure is available for download for all first semester students and contains information on the following subjects:

  • General information on the university, the campus and the surrounding area
  • Information on service units and contact details
  • Information on possibilities of financial support and contact details
  • Information on study support services (tutoring, peer-learning projects)

  • Information on online-web services and licensed information portals / software downloads
