Restrictions due to system changeover

Dear library users,

the university libraries were migrating to a new library system. So far, it has been possible to implement the measures without restricting the library's services.

This is now changing: during the transition from the old to the new system, there will be restrictions in the central library services for a few weeks. We cannot influence the exact timing of the changeover. The switch to Alma will affect all areas of the library and will tie up considerable staff resources. Despite intensive training, staff will also have to get used to the practicalities of working with Alma.

What does this mean for you?

  • as of now: You will have loan periods for media from our stock until November.
  • as of Jul 1st: You will no longer receive reminders regarding the expiry of the loan period. However, as the long loan periods already apply until November, this will only lead to restrictions for books from the interlibrary loan system that may still be due.
  • as of Jul 15th: Interlibrary loans from other libraries will be discontinued. It will still be possible to order articles via interlibrary loan until August 31st.
  • Sep 1st to Oct 4th: It is not possible to borrow, return or renew items. Reservations for borrowed media are only possible until July 31st. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable as the existing data must be “frozen” for a data dump before the new system goes live so that it is available when Alma goes live.
  • Sep 30th to Oct 4th: The library will be completely closed, as extensive tests of the new system must be carried out during this week in order to ensure the smoothest possible start to real operation at the beginning of the lecture period of the winter semester.

What remains available to you throughout:

  • Searching for literature in the online catalogue and via the DISCO discovery system
  • Access to electronic media (e-books, e-journals and databases)
  • Use of workstations and our collections on-site during opening hours (except from Sep 30th to Oct 4th).

We ask for your understanding regarding the restricted services and opening hours! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.

Best regards,
Your library
