New: ScanTent for high-quality scans with your smartphone

What is the ScanTent and where can I find it?

The ScanTent is a mini photo studio for scanning books and documents with your smartphone. It ensures stable positioning of the smartphone and, thanks to an LED ring, optimum illumination of the pages. This makes it possible to create reflection-free, high-quality scans - even of larger formats up to DIN A3.

The ScanTent is located at the windows of the research computers.

Instructions:

Please follow the instructions below to ensure that your scans turn out perfectly:

  • Prerequisite: You need a smartphone and a scan app (see below).
  • Do not use a tablet: Due to the weight and unsafe storage, please refrain from using tablets.
  • Position the book: Place the open book in the scantent.
  • Align smartphone: Place your smartphone on the non-slip tray at the top of the tent so that the camera is pointed directly at the pages of the book.

Recommended scanning apps:

  • DocScan (Android & iOS)
    • Ideal for scans up to DIN A3
    • Series function automatically recognizes page turns and creates multi-page PDFs
    • Available free of charge
  • Adobe Scan (Android & iOS)
    • Special book scan function: Automatically separates double pages and aligns them correctly.
    • Tip: Deactivate the automatic series function, as this often does not work reliably in practice.
    • Includes text recognition (OCR) - but only up to 25 pages per document free of charge, after that a subscription is required.

Please note copyright!

Please ensure that your scans do not infringe any copyrights.
