For Trier University of Applied Sciences, the compatibility of career, studies and family is an important social challenge and at the same time a responsibility that it faces up to through auditing.
By creating family-friendly study and working conditions, Trier University of Applied Sciences aims to make its study locations even more attractive for both students and employees in all areas, thereby helping to ensure the university's future viability. The foundation stone was laid in 2010 with the first successful "family-friendly university audit".
In 2014, Trier University of Applied Sciences was one of 39 universities in Germany to successfully complete the audit for the second time. It thus joined the ranks of well-known companies, organizations and institutions such as Globus, Robert Bosch GmbH and SAP. The certification in 2020 was accompanied by a consolidation. The auditing process takes place in several stages, in which many different university bodies, accompanied by an auditor from "berufundberufundfamilie Service GmbH"define the future development goals.
In March 2023, Trier University of Applied Sciences was successfully audited for the fifth time.

Trier University of Applied Sciences has been a member of the best practice club of the "Family in the University" association since 2015, which emerged from the charter of the same name in 2018. The association is a public commitment by the university to create family-friendly structures, processes and a family-friendly culture.
The association has firmly formulated standards that were accepted by the university when it signed the agreement and are now being implemented independently and developed further in the long term. The exchange with other member universities from all over Germany and Austria also makes it possible to benefit from their experiences, find inspiration for new ideas and reflect on one's own offers in comparison. As the association is specifically tailored to the university and academic system, it is aimed specifically at students and professionals in teaching and research.
The university sees its membership as a further opportunity to promote the work-life balance of students and employees and thus support the university's ability to perform and conduct research at a high level.
