In November 2023, the Department of Therapy Sciences welcomed Rod Charlie Delos Reyes from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines as an international guest lecturer. Mr. Delos Reyes teaches at this university and is also a PhD student in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of the Philippines Manila.
His research focuses on the study of occupational justice of the LGBTQIA+ community within the Philippine healthcare system. Mr. Delos Reyes has several years of professional experience as an occupational therapist, lecturer in various national and international universities, community development and leadership positions in various organizations. He has published numerous articles in national and international occupational and interdisciplinary journals.
Over the four-week guest lectureship, Mr. Delos Reyes conducted a series of workshops in the dual bachelor‘s degree course in occupational therapy. The workshops included a training focusing on intercultural sensitization, a discourse on the international practice of occupational therapy as well as lectures on gender and sexuality and their significance for occupational therapy.
After his return to the Philippines, Mr. Delos Reyes will work towards further expanding cooperation between the University of Santo Tomas, the University of the Philippines Manila, the University of Batangas, and Trier University of Applied Sciences. Initial talks between the professors at the universities in the Philippines and Prof. Dr. Schneider have already taken place. The intended partnerships aim to expand the internationalization of occupational therapy, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations: Health and Well-being (SDG 3) and Gender Equality (SDG 5) and to create exchange opportunities for lecturers and students from the mentioned universities and Trier University of Applied Sciences.
