Students play a crucial role in achieving the SDGs. They are creative and want to make a global contribution to a sustainable future. This makes them important drivers and the project aims to motivate them to form networks and complete SDG-related challenges. One project goal is therefore to develop an online engagement platform.
In this cross-departmental and cross-semester project, a multidisciplinary team consisting of students of computer science, communication design and environmental economics and law is working on the design and implementation of an SDG engagement platform with gamification elements. In the form of sustainability challenges, students are motivated to commit to SDG-inspired changes in their lives and to document their progress. This can range from reducing food waste to socially conscious consumer behavior to volunteering in a local community.
In this way, the engagement platform opens up a broad community and shows that even individuals can make a big difference through small conscious changes in behavior and offers students a virtual space to exchange ideas and network on topics relating to the future and sustainability. The platform is also intended to enable students to acquire basic knowledge about the 17 sustainability goals.
