The organisers describe the event as follows:
„Homo Faber 2024 takes you on a journey through a human life viewed through the lens of craftsmanship. Featuring more than 1000 objects by over 400 artisans from some 70 countries around the world, Homo Faber 2024 explored the essential role handmade objects play in our daily lives through the theme The Journey of Life.“
The month long event is curated by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, a private, international, non-profit Foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland, which champions contemporary craftspeople worldwide with the aim of promoting a more human, inclusive and sustainable future. Established by Johann Rupert and Franco Cologni, guided by the belief that human hands will always possess the unique ability to create meaningful objects, the Foundation facilitates connections between creative artisans and a conscious clientele by enabling them to discover the creations and workshops of artisans and craft entities across the world.
As part of the Homo Faber event, three of the works shown in Venice were honoured with an award. Julia Obermaier exhibited 15 works from her series "KOH-I-NOOR and Friends", consisting of various gemstones. In addition to Julia Obermaier, Hyejeong Ko (Public Vote Award) and Chang Young Park & Hyung-Park Park (Visiting Journalists Award) were honoured. The awards were sponsored by Via Arno.
