Master-Thesis: "Diaspora, the unknown path to emotional shift"

Betreuung: Prof. Ute Eitzenhöfer, Prof. Theo Smeets

"The thesis explores the multifaceted experience of migration and its impact on individuals, especially female Iranian artists living in various countries. It analyzes the interactions within emotions, identity, cultural heritage and artistic expression experienced by these artists in diaspora. Through interviews and analysis of their artistic works, the study uncovers how conflicts and cultural backgrounds can affect the theme and richness of concepts, ways of self-expression and lead to repetitive patterns.

The introduction highlights the contradicted emotions experienced by female Iranian artists. It represents the desire to explore new opportunities while struggling with feelings of empathy and displacement. The research strives to untangle the impact of conflicts on artistic expression and creativity.

Within the creative process of self-discovery and experimentation, the study explores how migration shapes emotions. Facing entanglement, the artists combine their stories and traumas with their new experiences into their work, inviting the viewers to think deeper about hidden aspects and meanings and connect with their personal stories and experiences. The study also brings attention to the interactive nature of jewelry as an art form, which engages the creator, wearer, and viewer where they can share experiences and feel for each other.

By embracing emotional entanglements, I experimented different styles and materials, using jewelry as an experience to express my innermost feelings and strive to find balance in my own way.

The conclusion reflects on the experience of migration and identity complexities in a new cultural context. It discusses the importance of art as a medium for exploring  conflict and balance in life experiences. Overall, the thesis proposes that emotional and cultural conflicts have the potential to enrich the creative process, inspiring artists to explore new perspectives and create innovative outcomes."
