"After my Bachelor studies in Ghana that comprised of working with six major materials, I decided to delve into the concept of Classical jewelry as a business and a source of livelihood. And after coming across a School within a city in the middle of a valley in Germany Called Idar Oberstein, I made a conscious effort to look at the contemporary aspects of emerging jewelry concepts and its emotional impact on humans, (both the wearer and the maker. I then chose to research on the topic of the Role of Gemstones and Jewelry in Emotional Rehabilitation.
Through the entire Academic course, I made weekly projects and also engaged in a theoretical approach to understanding and also research on my chosen topic. I reviewed a number of books, websites and publications that were in the same direction of growth and understanding with my Project topic. I delved into the concept of Akan jewelry related to Funerals and Grief, Happiness and self-accomplishments. It was realized that, most emotional jewelry from the Akan tribe either had a deep spiritual connotation to it, or had a strong emotional message to communicate. Emotional contemporary jewelry concepts like crematoria diamonds were also researched on . Other aspects of animal jewelry and its concept was researched on, and similarities were drawn between the drastic decline in types of materials along the years, and also the role working materials played in communicating such ideas and messages.
I came to the conclusion that, though most of the jewelry may be sentimental, it held very strong meaning to its wearer, receiver and giver. And also, material within the African and European certain of emotional jewelry played a very significant role in communicating the concepts and message. This understanding shaped my thinking and understanding of ow to combine materials and forms during the final execution of my project work.
After summing up all these concepts and ideas to back my research, I came up with unique jewelry concepts and pieces that was born out of the knowledge acquired by the researcher, and the ingenuity of know how to combine the various types of materials to attain a concept."
