Instructions for registering for lectures

1. Your courses of the first semester (example: International Business)

Many of you will start in the International Business programme (IB) in the winter semester 2024/25. In this case, your first semester with us will consist of the courses highlighted in this study chart (please click to enlarge!):

  • Introduction to Management
  • Marketing
  • Fundamentals of Accounting
  • Principles of Economics
  • Principles of Law
  • Quantitative Methods 1 (Applied Mathematics)

Note: The timetables are expected to be published in mid-September 2024.

2. Registration for courses

The following instructions follow the Stud.IP view in the browser of your laptop or home PC. The display on smartphones may differ. We recommend using your laptop or home PC!

Register on Stud.IP as a first-semester student for your courses by proceeding as follows (possible from mid-September 2024):

  1. Log in to Stud.IP with your user ID.

    Stud.IP
  2. Select the item "Search" in the menu (magnifying glass symbol).
  3. Make sure that "on the left" the semester "WS 2024/25" is selected.
  4. Enter a keyword or a specific term for one of the courses in your semester. Please note: Several courses containing the same terms may be displayed here, as the search is university-wide without any further filters. Please make sure that you enter the correct term.
  5. Now, after you have called up the overview page of the course, select "Go to course" on the left and confirm the subsequent query with "Yes".
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for all courses of your semester.
  7. If you then select the item "Courses" in the menu, you will see a list of all modules for which you have successfully registered this way.
  8. Call up one of the courses and see what content is offered here, in particular:
    "Overview", "Participants", "Files", "Schedule".

3. Registration for language modules (voluntary additional lectures!)

The first semester of Business Administration (e.g.) includes a language module. Modules are available in English, French, Spanish and Chinese. The special feature here: Places in these courses are allocated by lottery, whereby preferences can be stated.

The language modules mentioned in the timetables are available for you to choose from, specifically:

  • Business English 1
  • Business English 2
  • Spanisch 1
  • Spanisch 2
  • Chinesisch 1
  • Chinesisch 2
  • Francais Economique 1

Notes:

  • English and French build on good "school English and French" respectively.
  • Chinese and Spanish start at beginner level. In this respect, participation in "Spanisch 2" and "Chinesisch 2" is only possible with previous knowledge of these languages. Otherwise, if you are interested in these languages, it is recommended that you first take "Spanisch 1" or "Chinesisch 1".
  • With Business English you can - if desired - also start with Part 2, as Parts 1 and 2 do not build on each other. This is not possible with Chinese and Spanish without prior knowledge!

Now proceed as follows:

  1. Log in to Stud.IP again with your user ID.

    STUD.IP
  2. Under "Search term", enter a keyword or a specific language module. Your individual specification will be made later! (Attention: Do not confuse the modules "Business English" with the modules "International Business English").

  3. Choose any language module, select "Go to course" on the left!
  4. Now select at least two courses one after the other from the list of language modules (left) and drag them with the mouse ("drag and drop") into the area under "Selected courses". You can thus set preferences here which will be taken into account in the draw!
  5. Check if the prioritisation order is as desired, otherwise change the order (this can be adjusted until the application deadline!).
  6. Click on "Save" and then on "Close"!
  7. Check under "Events" that your desired language modules are listed there under "Registration and waiting list entries", for example as in the following illustration (exemplary list from the previous summer semester!). Places in the language modules are allocated automatically after the application deadline.
