From 8 November to 15 November 2019, 11 participants of the seminar "Économie et gestion internationale" travelled to Morocco under the direction of Prof. Dr. Ute Nikolay, and accompanied by Ms Annegret Willems from the International Business Office. The main goal of the excursion was to familiarize the students with the country and people of the francophone non-European country and to revive the cooperation with the University Mohammed V Rabat that has existed since 2016.
The first stop was Marrakech, one of Morocco's "royal cities". Here, Moroccan city life could be experienced most impressively. During the organised city tour, some of the most interesting quarters of the city could be visited (among others the market place "Djeema el Fna", the "Place de Melaj" and the "Palais Bahia" from the 19th century). A typical Moroccan dinner with a family rounded off the day.
On the 3rd day, the journey continued by train to Casablanca, the largest city in Morocco. After a guided tour of the city and a visit to the Hassan II Mosque, a meeting with the Chambre Allemande de Commerce et d'Industrie au Maroc (AHK - Morocco) was scheduled. The Head of Market Consulting at the AHK, Ms Claudia Schmidt, reported on the international projects that Morocco is carrying out with Germany and also France. She also offered the students the opportunity to do an internship there.
On the 5th day, they continued by train to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. Here, the visit to the partner university Mohammed V was the focus of the stay. Prof. Dr. Nikolay presented the new cooperation agreement (Erasmus+) between Rabat and Trier to the numerous interested colleagues and students and explained the admission requirements and financial support options. This was followed by lunch together at the university and a tour of the university with Prof. Dr. Aomari as well as the city of Rabat under the guidance of Azeddine, currently still a student in Rabat but soon to be an exchange student in Trier.
At the end of the stay in Morocco, a visit to the cultural officer of the German embassy in Rabat was on the agenda.
