Alejandra Solar gewinnt bei New Traditional Jewellery Award

Das diesjährige Thema des New Traditional Jewellery Awards (NTJ) lautete "Confrontations". Die Jury befand dazu Folgendes:
 "Eine faszinierende Konfrontation von Material: natürlich und synthetisch, schwarz und transparent; eine schöne Kombination von Formen und technischer Versiertheit. 
(...) ein sehr poetisches, ausgereiftes und immens detailliert gearbeitetes Schmuckstück." Zu der eingereichten Arbeit (Bild links oben) sagt Solar:

"The Aztecs believed that darkness begets light and, by extension, life", Solar recounts. "In their world creation is the result of a confrontation between opposites, for which Mictlantecuhtli, god of the gods, serves as a model. He represents death and life force. This god goes through the process of dying, but also comes back to life", she explains. "I expressed this belief in my brooch. I mixed resin with graphite, poured the mixture into a cornleaf (corn being the staple food of the Mexicans, ubiquitous in their culture and religion) and fastened this to a fragment of onyx".

Unter den Nominierten war auch Nicolas Estrada, ebenfalls Absolvent im Studiengang Master of Fine Arts in Idar-Oberstein.

Sieraad Art Fair 2014 in der WesterGasfabriek in Amsterdam vom 6.-9. November 2014
