Civil Engineering (B.Eng.) - Dual Study Programme

The Dual Study Programme Civil Engineering at Trier University of Applied Sciences is a joint initiative of the Trier University of Applied Sciences, the Trier Chamber of Crafts (HWK), the guilds and district crafts associations of the region, the Trier Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), the Rhineland-Palatinate Association of the Construction Industry and the vocational schools of Saarburg, Wittlich and Gerolstein.

It combines the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Civil Engineering at the Trier University of Applied Sciences with practical vocational training in the professions of construction draughtsman or draughtswoman, bricklayer, road builder or carpenter. Possible training companies for vocational training can be found at the HWK or IHK.

Programme structure

The first part of the programme mainly takes place in the company and is supplemented by teaching periods in the vocational school and the Trier Chamber of Skilled Crafts (BTZ). During the subsequent studies at Trier University of Applied Sciences beginning in the winter semester, further training phases in the company will follow during the semester break.  The vocational training period is 22 months in total, including pro rata holiday periods under collective bargaining agreement. During the fifth semester of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Civil Engineering, the practical semester will also be completed in the training company. The theoretical part of the journeyman’s examination is taken after the second semester while the practical examination usually takes place after the fifth semester.

Application and enrolment

Applications for the training position usually take place one year prior to the start of training, which must be taken into account while scheduling.

The application for the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Civil Engineering Trier University of Applied Sciences follows after at least 12 months of practical work in the training company via the application portal.

Admission requirements

The Bachelor’s Degree Course in Civil Engineering is not restricted by a Numerus Clausus.

Requirement for the admission is a general education entrance qualification (Abitur) or an advanced technical college entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife).
