Great joy for the Gemstone and Jewellery Campus: two former students were awarded top-class jewellery prizes at the International Crafts Fair (IHM) in Munich.

Every year during Munich Jewellery Week, exceptional artists and craftspeople are presented at the IHM in the special shows "SCHMUCK" and "TALENTE - Meister der Zukunft". The Munich and Upper Bavaria Chamber of Crafts awards prizes to particularly innovative works in the field of jewellery and craftsmanship from the groups of exhibited entries.

A top-class honour went to Nikita Kavryzhkin (MFA 2021). He was awarded the Herbert-Hofmann-Prize, one of the most prestigious jewellery awards in the world. His work in gemstone was selected from over 700 applications for the special "SCHMUCK" show alongside the work of Yiftah Avraham (MFA 2016) and Julia Obermaier (BFA 2016), also graduates of the Campus. The award, which is considered the "Oscar of modern jewellery", is presented annually to three outstanding works from the special show.

In this year's special "TALENTE" show, Natascha Frechen (MFA 2024) impressed the jury with her extraordinary gemstone necklaces and was awarded the TALENTEmünchen prize. Frechen, who completed both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Idar-Oberstein, already received the New Talents Award from the Klimt02 jewellery platform in 2023 and the Rhineland-Palatinate State Prize for Arts and Crafts in 2019. She was selected for the special show alongside Dua Fatima Baig (MFA 2024), Gina Nadine Müller (MFA 2024) and Miriam Strake (BFA 2024) from over 500 applications, alongside 88 other entries.

During Munich Jewellery Week, numerous other graduates and students from Idar-Oberstein presented themselves at the trade fair and in Munich's city centre - be it at the university's stand, as part of the AHA and ASTONISH jewellery collectives or in the many galleries and collectives that exhibited contemporary jewellery in Munich during the past week. With these successes and its presence during the Munich Jewellery Week, the local Campus Gemstone and Jewellery once again underlines its international importance as a training centre for innovative and outstanding gemstone and jewellery design.
