More than 40 students from four different universities took part in the course, which was led by David Wilson, an iron and metal artist from Bristol, and Nils Hint, Associate Professor at the EKA. In addition to the participants from the Idar-Oberstein Campus of Trier University of Applied Sciences and the host Estonian Academy of Arts, students from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden and the HKU University of Arts in Utrecht in the Netherlands also travelled to the workshop.
The aim of the workshop was to learn the techniques of the casting process using one of the most commonly used materials - iron. The participants were prepared for the practical part in advance in an online seminar. At the beginning of the workshop, they created wax models, which were then used to make around 60 casting moulds. The highlight of the workshop was the casting of these moulds with 780 kg of red-hot iron.
The work created in the workshop will be further processed after the students return to their respective universities.
