The LISBON INTERNATIONAL BIENNAL OF CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY is taking place for the second time this year. In the context of this year's theme, "Political Jewellery. Jewels of Power", the aim is to reflect on the ways in which politics and power are expressed through jewellery. The title of the biennial, "Madrugada", is based on a poem by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, which addresses the Carnation Revolution on 25 April 1974, which ushered in democracy in Portugal. This year marks the 50th anniversary of this political event. The "Madrugada" exhibition aims to highlight the vitality of political expression in contemporary artistic jewellery. It presents transgenerational, transcultural and transspecies visions that reveal different perceptions and understand jewellery as a political gesture.
As part of the Biennale, students and graduates will also be exhibiting in Lisbon until 26 July 2024 under the title "ALTER SOLIS - THE OTHER SUN":
ALTER SOLIS is an exhibition conceived and assembled by an eclectic group of contemporary jewellery artists who have come together to share their light as part of the second Lisbon Jewellery Biennal.
As parallel Suns, as a parallel event, we will approach the concept of the "other". Who is the other? Where does the other begin, and where does the other end? do we inspire or antagonize each other, do we share or steal each other's sun?
How do we compose with each other? Do we have enough sun for each other? We will show you the results of these variables, with heliotropic Lisbon in the background.
The Other Sun are:
Sharareh Aghaei, Nikolaus Egger, Tatjana Giorgadse, Iris Hummer, Levani Jishkariani, Typhaine Le Monnier, Caio Mahin, Dot Melanin, Nikita Kavryzhkin, Ulrich Reithofer, Ye Wang, Kun Zhang.
