The participants, most of whom came from the area (one student made the long journey from the Rhein-Pfalz district), were able to look forward to an exciting programme on the subject of gemstone processing. Under the guidance of Levan Jishkariani, the head of the gemstone cutting workshop, the boys learned how gemstones are cut, faceted and engraved - and then got to work themselves.
With a lot of concentration and enthusiasm, sparkling unique pieces were created on the professional machines, which were taken home as memories or small gifts for family and friends. It was particularly pleasing that one of the participants was taking part for the second time - a sign of how lasting the enthusiasm for the craft can be.
A pleasant atmosphere was also created away from the workbshop: barbecued sausages and ice cream were served in best spring weather - ideal conditions for a successful day.
The Design Campus regularly takes part in Boy's Day to familiarise young people with creative and manual professions at an early age - especially those that are often neglected in the traditional school day.
